The Birth of a Nation just got a nationwide October 7th release date from Fox Searchlight, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Nate Parker wrote, directed, and starred in the film, which was one of the biggest hits to come out of this year’s Sundance. Fox Searchlight paid $17.5 million for it, making it the most expensive movie ever bought at Sundance.

The Birth of a Nation tells the story of Nat Turner’s 1831 slave rebellion in Virginia. The movie also stars Armie Hammer, Gabrielle Union, Penelope Ann Miller, and Jackie Earle Haley.
