You’ve probably noticed that Tesla is different from mainstream automakers in many, many ways. For one, they’ve got Elon Musk running the show, a man who is... well, Elon Musk. Two, Tesla’s entire lineup is all-electric. And three, the company doesn’t have franchised dealerships — when you want to buy a Model S or X (or soon, a Model 3), you buy it from Tesla directly, not a third party.
Ordering Volvo’s new flagship sedan is a little like ordering a Tesla

Volvo has a new system in place for the launch of its flagship S90 sedan that kind of mimics that experience: you can spec out the exact car you want online, then submit it to a “Volvo Concierge” who will finalize the order for you within a day or two. You’re not buying the car directly from Volvo, though, as you would from Tesla — you choose a dealer to have the car sent to. Still, it saves you from at least one trip to the dealer.
Once you place the order, you can track the shipping process a little like you would an Amazon package — a very, very expensive Amazon package. S90 pricing starts at $47,945, or $60,505 for models ordered online.
