Prince’s iconic 1984 film Purple Rain is returning to theaters this weekend. Variety reports that, as a way of honoring the lost legend, AMC has partnered with Warner Bros. to screen the film in 87 locations across the country from tomorrow, April 23rd through Thursday, the 28th.
Prince’s Purple Rain will play in AMC theaters this weekend
Purple Rain, both the film and the album that shared its name, is Prince’s best known work and is widely regarded as what shot him to superstardom. The film is a semi-autobiographical story about a young musician known only as “The Kid” who, in order to escape an unhappy home, sets out to become a rock star. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score — the last to receive the honor — and tracks from the film like “Let’s Go Crazy” and “When Doves Cry” went on to top the Billboard charts. Purple Rain is a cult classic like no other, and if you can see it in theaters, you absolutely should.
