Netflix has just renewed a big handful of shows, and announced a smaller handful of new ones. The most exciting renewal is probably Maria Bamford’s Lady Dynamite, a sitcom that’s not only funny and absurd, it also offers a sharp and vulnerable portrayal of mental illness. Netflix hasn’t announced how many episodes the second season will get — only that it will arrive sometime in 2017.

Netflix also gave Rob Schneider’s Real Rob, a show I didn’t know existed until this moment, an eight-episode renewal, and Chelsea Handler’s talk show Chelsea, for (this is real) 90 more episodes.
As far as new original series go, there’s Ozark, a 10-episode drama starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. Bateman plays a financial planner who relocates his family from the suburbs to a resort community in Missouri. Netflix describes the show as “dark” and “money-centric,” and says it will boldly tackle both “capitalism” and “family dynamics.”
Netflix also gave solid premiere dates to nine series, including Chef’s Table, which will get a France-specific installment on September 2nd. And the second half of the first season of Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson’s The Ranch will premiere on October 7th.
