The original cast of the 1960s Batman TV series are returning to voice their characters once more in a new animated feature, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. According to Entertainment Weekly, Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar will be taking up their roles as Batman, Robin, and Catwoman for the straight-to-Blu-ray title, and it’s also been hinted that old villains — including the Joker, Riddler, and Penguin — will also make an appearance.

If the teaser for the new film is anything to go by (mirror above, but the original is hosted here on Entertainment Weekly), then we can expect a full return to the camp action of the original TV series. Expect plenty of puns, props, and easily escapable do-or-die situations. It’ll certainly contrast with the recent animated adaptation of DC’s The Killing Joke, which has attracted criticism for mishandling of sexual violence. Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will be released on Blu-ray on November 1st and Digital HD on October 11th. Let’s hope Waynebeau shows up.
