Hopes for the eventual release of Beyond Good & Evil 2 — a sequel to Michel Ancel’s wonderful 2003 video game, not Friedrich Nietzche’s 1886 philosophical tome — have been rekindled by a cryptic Instagram post from the director.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 might actually be happening

Ancel, who also created the Rayman series and directed the acclaimed video game adaptation of Peter Jackson’s King Kong, posted some concept art to the photo-sharing network with the caption “Somewhere in System 4... Thanks #ubisoft for making this possible!” Ubisoft’s French Twitter account linked to the post and advised fans to follow Ancel closely, complete with winking emoji.
System 4 is the name of the fictional region of space where Beyond Good & Evil took place. The pig is likely a younger version or relative of pivotal character Pey’j, though it’s unclear who the moody bearded man is.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first announced in 2008 but has hardly been heard from since. The original game, a beguiling Legend of Zelda-esque adventure in which a photojournalist called Jade uncovered a vast alien conspiracy, struck a chord with many of its players but failed to sell well. A remastered version was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.
