O’Denat founded WorldStarHipHop in 2005, as a place to download mixtapes. Soon, however, he expanded the site to include a variety of aggregated videos, most notably fight clips and funny videos, which turned the phrase “WorldStar” into a meme of its own.
Ultimately, WorldStarHipHop became the premier news and entertainment outlet for fans of hip-hop and urban culture. It’s now considered the place where one can find videos from the events in Ferguson and Black Lives Matter rallies from across the country, and a place where both underground and major hip-hop artists like 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, and Rick Ross would debut their music videos first.
