Netflix has given a series order to Raising Dion, an adaptation of a short film and comic book by Dennis Liu, Variety reports. The comic book is about a seven-year-old boy who discovers his talent for telekinesis after the death of his father. Soon after, Dion’s mother realizes that they’re being trailed by a group of mysterious men in suits.

“We haven’t seen this type of superhero story before — an origin myth full of imagination, wonder and adventure, all grounded in the experiences of a modern single mother,” Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content said in a statement.
Michael B. Jordan is set to executive produce and appear in the series. Raising Dion will be produced in-house at Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as the streaming giant continues to prove itself as a production studio.
The series has apparently been in development for more than a year. After Netflix’s Stranger Things became a hit, Raising Dion was tabled to avoid any sci-fi overlap, according to THR.
No release date has been set.
