He Will Not Divide Us exhibit has found a new home

Last week, The Museum of the Moving Image in Queens shut down the live-streaming art protest He Will Not Divide Us created by Shia LaBeouf, Nastja Säde Rönkkö, and Luke Turner. As of today, the project has found a new home at the El Rey Theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In a statement, LaBeouf, Rönkkö, and Turner announced that the stream — which displayed “the museum has abandoned us,” after being shut down by the Museum of the Moving Image, had returned to a wall outside the Albuquerque theater.

The trio condemned the museum, stating that they “voiced serious concerns to the museum about hate speech occurring at the site of our project,” and accused the museum of bowing to political pressure when it closed down the stream. The museum explained that “the installation created a serious and ongoing public safety hazard,” citing several incidents that occurred at the site.

Originally installed on January 20th at The Museum of the Moving Image, the art project encouraged individuals to step before a camera and repeat the words “He will not divide us” to an internet audience. The project quickly attracted Trump supporters and neo-Nazis, while LeBeouf was briefly detained after an alleged altercation. If allowed to continue, the live stream will broadcast for the next four years.
