Microsoft today announced that Excel on Windows will be getting one of the more useful tools from Office: co-authoring. This allows multiple users to edit a spreadsheet at the same time — much like what you might be used to with Google’s G Suite products. When a new person joins the document to edit it, you’ll see a profile avatar appear at the top. Click on that photo and you’ll get taken to where that user is currently editing.

Real-time collaboration on Excel is available in public beta starting today, which means to try the new feature, you (and whomever you’re co-authoring with) will need to be signed up for the Office Insider program. The document also needs to live on Microsoft’s file storage system, which means you have to share it via OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint Online. Co-authoring was previously available in Excel Online, Excel on Android, Windows Mobile, and iOS. Mac support is next on the roadmap, the company said.
