Hold off on buying a custom skin for your Nintendo Switch

dbrand, a company that makes custom vinyl skins for a variety of devices, is warning Nintendo Switch owners to avoid buying a wrap for their device. The reason? The adhesive can damage the outer coating of the device.

The company highlighted the issue in a post to Reddit, in which its designers first noticed the issue with a pre-production model. “After a couple of prototypes, we saw minor indications of the outer coating beginning to peel off.” The company also found that the regulatory wording and Nintendo logo were screen printed to the device, and would peel when the wrap is removed.

With the Switch now out, the company tested its prototypes on the consumer version, only to find the same problem. In the post, it issued an advisory: “JoyCons and the Console are not compatible with vinyl wraps or any adhesive-backed skin of any kind,” and offered to refund any customers who had pre ordered a Switch skin.

Engadget points out that Nintendo sells its own Zelda-themed wrap for the device, and that it’s not clear if it causes the same issues. We’ve reached out to Nintendo for clarification.
