Nest is the latest company to let customers protect their accounts with two-step verification.

The ability to enable two-step is being launched across all of Nest’s apps today. The option will appear under the app’s “Account Security” settings, where it can be enabled with the tap of a button. An app update won’t be needed.

Nest’s two-factor works like most others out there: any time you want to sign into your Nest account, you’ll be sent a text message with a one-time-use code. You’ll need both that code and your normal password in order to gain access to your account.

It’s not very time-consuming to do, but it can go a long way toward protecting your accounts. It means that even if someone gets ahold of your password, they’ll still need to be in possession of your phone — or go through a lot of work to reroute your incoming messages — before they can log in as you.

Basically, if you have a Nest account — and especially if you have one of Nest’s security cameras — this is worth enabling. This site has a great running list of other services with two-factor, in case you want to have some fun securing your accounts this morning.
