Chris Pratt ponders the primitive Zune in Guardians of the Galaxy deleted scene

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), trades in cassette tapes for another piece of bygone tech: Microsoft’s Zune. The Zune, one of Yondu’s Ravagers tells him, can hold up to 300 songs and is a hit back on Earth. In a scene cut from the film, Pratt learns the finer details of how to use its turny thing to find songs and gets to know music from “kind of angry” lady Alice Cooper.

Star-Lord and Kraglin (Sean Gunn) are quick to comment on the device’s primitive nature — an apt description of the Zune, created to rival Apple’s iPod. The portable media player wasn’t long for this world. The first Zune launched in 2006 and was discontinued by 2011, and by 2015, the streaming service had been retired completely. Even former Microsoft execs have admitted it was a mistake, an insult best reserved for your younger siblings.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is available today in Digital HD, with a Blu-ray release on August 22nd.
