League of Legends adds a neon look in celebration of its virtual K-pop star

The neon demon has arrived

During the League of Legends World Championships this past weekend, developer Riot Games kicked off its ceremony with an augmented reality performance, a mashup of real-life K-pop group (G)I-DLE, and LoL’s fictional group, K/DA. In addition to the live performance of “Pop/Stars,” the developer also released a music video featuring all four of its virtual stars. But one character in particular caught the attention of fans: Akali, whose neon look will soon roll out in the game as a free update.

Akali is hard to miss in the “Pop/Stars” video. As soon as the lights go out, her look shifts from a singer to a neon demon. In-game, this skin will alter the look of her “twilight shroud” ability.

While the performance and video were a move to promote a new line of character cosmetics for four of LoL’s champions — Akali, Ahri, Evelynn, and Kai’Sa — the song is... pretty catchy. The update goes live first as part of changes to the Public Beta Environment, and it’s expected to hit the full game later this month.
