Later this year, Amazon plans to launch Prime Book Box, a monthly book subscription service for kids. For $22.99 per month, subscribers will receive a box of four board books (for ages two and younger) or two hardcover picture books or novels (for ages three to 12). This is Amazon’s first monthly subscription service to offer physical books, TechCrunch reports.

Prime Book Box will be available on a one-, two-, or three-month basis, depending on what plan the subscriber chooses. The available books will be divided into four different age groups for readers: birth to two years, three to five years, six to eight years, and nine to 12 years.

Amazon Books editors will choose books for the selected age range, from “classics” to “hidden gems,” and they will use your Amazon purchase history to avoid including books you’ve already purchased. Each month, subscribers will receive an email preview of the box, and they can choose to swap some books from a short list of alternate selections before the box is shipped.

Although Amazon says this is a way to “inspire a love of reading,” as TechCrunch points out, it’s also a way for the company collect more data — even from young children who don’t have their own Amazon accounts. If you have more than one child, you’ll have to sign up for multiple Book Box subscriptions.

As with Amazon’s previous rollouts, notably with its Echo products, the service is currently only available by invitation for Prime members. You can request an invitation here.
