Google’s Smart Displays are going on sale in July

Google’s Smart Displays, the screen-enriched smart speakers that were the highlight of Google’s big marketing push at CES 2018 in January, are now one step closer to their release date, with Google today announcing they’ll be available to buy in July.

Partnering with familiar Android OEMs Lenovo, LG, and Sony as well as speaker maker JBL, Google’s Smart Display platform is a direct response to Amazon’s Echo and, more specifically, Echo Show. Google has a much wider group of partners delivering home speakers with Google Assistant built in, and the whole initiative is setting up Google’s competition to Amazon’s Alexa dominance in the smart home space.
