The Sonos family of connected speakers is getting another boost today with the announcement of compatible outdoor, ceiling, and in-wall speakers to be built by Sonance. The so-called “architectural speakers” will be designed to work with the new Sonos Amp launching today. When paired with the Amp, each Sonance speaker will be able to take advantage of Sonos’ TruePlayTuning software to analyze a room’s acoustics and then adjust their woofers and tweeters for optimal sound. Sonos says it will sell and market the first fruits of the speaker collaboration in “early 2019.”

Sonance is an audio company founded on the idea of delivering “unsurpassed performance combined with minimal visual intrusion,” according to the company’s website. In terms of products you can already buy, that vision translates to a collection of speakers, some disguised as rocks, and others with minimal bezels that disappear into ceilings and walls. Unfortunately, neither Sonos nor Sonance are previewing any compatible speakers today, let alone discussing prices.

2019 is shaping up to a big year for the Sonos ecosystem. First with Sonance, and then with the expected launch of the Ikea Symfonisk series sometime after the summer.
