The audiobook is narrated by Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story, Law & Order: Criminal Intent). In this excerpt, taken from the book’s eighth chapter “Space Power,” Tyson and Lang look at how the military uses the NAVSTAR Global Positioning System. In 1991, it became a useful tool for helping soldiers navigate on the ground, and for pilots who could now accurately aim missiles and bombs at targets.
