Angela Lansbury, who may have helped usher in the modern age of VR, passed away today.
She was 96, and yes, despite being one of the best actresses of our time with a career spanning more decades than most of us will be alive, she also may have had a hand in inspiring modern VR.
In a 1993 episode of Murder, She Wrote, her character Jessica Fletcher investigated a murder at the VR gaming company.
It was seen by millions, and many claim it was among the inspirations for Palmer Luckey’s first VR headset. I couldn’t find any evidence to support that, but it’s not unreasonable to think Lansbury’s foray into a virtual world inspired others.
