Fox might have shot its Percy Jackson movies in the foot.
The massive success of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson books made 20th Century Fox’s plan to adapt them into movies seem like a surefire box office bet.
But according to a new piece from Variety, as much as Fox’s adaptations had going for them, former studio head Tom Rothman’s shortsightedness and unwillingness to spend real money on marketing and solid VFX ultimately doomed the projects to fail.
