The Nobel Prize in physics goes to scientists who “have given humanity new tools for exploring the world of electrons.”
Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L’Huillier figured out how to use quick bursts of light to study electrons that can whiz by at 43 miles per second.
“Think of a rotating fan at its highest speed: each blade is a blur. But if you point a strobe light at the fan, every flash will illuminate a frozen moment in time,” the New York Times writes.
