The GOP is not-so-quietly turning into the party of government speech regulations.
Adi’s written at length about how both sides in American politics appear to be kind of over the First Amendment, but the GOP in particular keeps talking about overturning NYT vs. Sullivan, the landmark 1964 Supreme Court case that protects the media’s ability to criticize politicians and other public figures. Leading the charge? Ron DeSantis, who recently appeared on a panel dedicated to overturning the case. I will keep saying this over and over: government speech regulations are bad!
