Masimo and Apple’s beef over blood oxygen patents ends in a mistrial.
Six of seven jurors ruled in favor of Apple, saying the company didn’t infringe on medical device maker Masimo’s patents for the Apple Watch’s blood oxygen sensor. The seventh juror wasn’t swayed — hence the mistrial. But the show ain’t over yet.
An ITC judge ruled earlier in January that Apple had infringed on one of Masimo’s patents. A final decision on whether the Series 6, 7, 8, and Ultra will face an import ban won’t come until May 10th. Oh, and Apple’s facing another potential import ban over the smartwatches’ EKG feature.
