The JCPA advances out of committee... again.

The Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA) in a 14-7 vote today. That means the bill, which would let news publishers negotiate with Facebook and Google to get paid for content posted to their platforms, can be brought up for a floor vote.

Meta has threatened to block all news on Facebook and Instagram if that bill and another like it in California were to become law.

Will it get a vote on the floor? Who knows. The same committee passed that bill 15-7 last year and it never got any farther than that.
