A fruit farmer’s organization in Switzerland is worried Apple’s going too far with recent trademark requests.

Wired writes about Apple attempting to secure IP rights for “a realistic, black-and-white depiction of an apple variety known as the Granny Smith,” how that’s part of a long list of similar requests made worldwide, and what it could mean for other companies with apples in their logos (via Techmeme).

Fruit Union Suisse director Jimmy Mariéthoz:

Their objective here is really to own the rights to an actual apple, which, for us, is something that is really almost universal … that should be free for everyone to use
