More from iPhone 15 event: all the news on Apple’s new phones
iOS 17 comes out on September 18th, but a few announced features won’t be baked into it that day. 9to5Mac dug through a huge PDF of iOS 17 features to see which upgrades will be coming to your iPhone later this year.

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have a USB-C port so that Apple can comply with a European Union rule requiring a universal charger. The EU’s rule is supposed to cut down e-waste, although Apple has argued that ditching Lightning chargers could do the opposite. The Verge spoke with e-waste experts last year about the change, and the environmental impact depends on a couple wild cards: consumer behavior, and whether standardization makes it easier to recycle discarded chargers.
The RE4 remake will come to iPad and Mac later this year, and Resident Evil Village is coming to iPad this year as well, according to a Capcom press email I got this morning. (Village is already available on Mac.) Both games will also be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, and both will support cross-progression across Apple devices.

Victoria Song has spent some time with the new Apple Watch Series 9 and the new Apple Watch Ultra 2, which look... a lot like the previous models. Even the bright new screen on the Ultra was hard to test indoors at Apple’s iPhone 15 launch event.
But inside these wearables, there’s a new S9 SiP (System in Package) and a new ultra wideband chip, and she was able to try out the new Double Tap control feature.

Making a music video (or even a movie, just ask Steven Soderbergh) recorded with an iPhone is no longer a new gimmick, but Apple’s iPhone 15 ad blitz includes this behind-the-scenes look at making the video for Olivia Rodrigo’s Get Him Back with the iPhone 15 Pro.
That’s one way to make a case for how having USB-C for external drives and Pro Res 4K Log can improve the production process.

Straight from today’s iPhone 15 launch event, Allison Johnson can tell you all about the new lineup, including the now titanium-bodied iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max that feel noticeably lighter than their predecessors.
It’s one nice perk from the iPhone’s switch to USB-C.

Have you ever wished your Apple Watch did absolutely nothing other than tell you the time and lasted 96 hours without charging? Then let me remind you of this $30,000 mechanical watch that came out a few Apple Watches ago. The high-horology world can be snobby, so it’s refreshing to see a brand be playful (price-tag aside) and troll a huge cultural moment.
Apple quietly snuck some hardware upgrades into its refreshed second-generation AirPods Pro — now with a USB-C port on the case.
As the tech specs page confirms, the earbuds are now rated IP54, meaning they’ve picked up dust resistance, which the Lightning set technically lacked with their IPX4 rating.
