Call Me By Your Cava Punch
Relive a summertime dalliance with this Italian-inspired punch. Don’t forget the peaches.
Ingredients:
2 fresh nectarines
2 fresh peaches (or 1 bag frozen peach slices)
250 milliliters (approx. 8.5 ounces) lime juice
250 milliliters (approx. 8.5 ounces) peach purée syrup (1 part peach purée to 1 part superfine sugar)
1 750 ml-bottle Aperol
1 750 ml-bottle Freixenet Cava Brut
Prepare:
Slice nectarines and peaches. Reserve as many peach slices as you have guests for garnish. Place nectarine slices and remaining peach slices in a Tupperware container full of filtered water. Freeze for 24 hours, or until solid, before serving.
For the punch:
Dip bottom of frozen container in warm water for a few seconds to unmold. Invert into large punch bowl. Combine lime juice, peach purée, and Aperol in punch bowl.
To serve:
Pour about 3.5 oz into punch glass filled with fresh ice, top with Freixenet Cava Brut. Garnish with a peach slice.
The Tempest
Celebrate this year’s coming-of-age breakout film with this fruity, citrusy cocktail. Whether you believe that there is no role of ‘The Tempest’ or that it’s the titular role of its namesake Shakespeare play, this pink drink will cool down any lingering memories of adolescent angst.
Ingredients:
1⁄4 ounce lemon juice
1⁄4 ounce Velvet Falernum
1⁄2 ounce Pink Lady or Fuji apple juice
1 1⁄2 ounce white rum
1 750-ml bottle Freixenet Cava Extra Dry
Peychaud’s Bitters
1 lemon
To serve:
Combine all ingredients except Cava in a cocktail shaker. Shake and pour into a Collins glass filled with crushed ice. Float a splash of Freixenet Cava Extra Dry. Top with bitters and a bit more ice. Garnish with a lemon wheel and straw.
Reynolds’ Reviver
Journey back to 1950s post-war London with this gin-based cocktail, inspired by Reynolds and Alma’s volatile romance. Serve with mushroom crostini, if you dare.
Ingredients:
1 orange
1⁄2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
1⁄2 ounce Earl Grey martini syrup (1 part Earl Grey tea mixed with 1 part superfine sugar)
1 ounce London dry gin
1 750-ml bottle Freixenet Cava Brut
To serve:
Cut half the orange into slices. Combine all ingredients besides Cava in a shaker, shake with fresh ice, and strain into a coupe. Float a splash of Freixenet Cava Brut. Garnish with an orange twist.
