It’s a plug-and-play unit that offers up the best of both worlds: the convenience of a portable AC, and the cooling power and efficiency of a split AC (so named because they split the components of a typical air conditioning system into two parts: one indoor and one outdoor, reducing the need for ductwork and other costly home construction). The unit requires no tools to install and is quieter than your average dishwasher, while packing serious cooling power — according to the manufacturer, the PortaSplit is capable of cooling a 42 square meter room from 29°C to 24°C in just 15 minutes (tested with an outside temperature of 30°C).

The PortaSplit is a versatile unit that can affordably meet the need for household cooling, even for renters. In a rental, it’s not possible to install a permanent system — but you can set up the PortaSplit. Just attach the bracket to the window frame, mount the outdoor unit, close the windows, and voilà. Renters can even take it with them when they move.

A common complaint about other units on the market is that they’re loud. But the PortaSplit provides comfortable temperatures while minimizing noise with its triple-layer soundproofing — it operates at just 39dB(A) in silent mode, which is about the same as the quietest dishwashers on the market.

The PortaSplit also has what’s called Air Magic+ technology. Midea says that this technology emits negative ions that work to purify your home’s air and reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses. Instead of running an air purifier alongside an AC unit — which can start to get clunky — Midea offers a one-stop-shop for your home’s interior comfort.

Homeowners can benefit from the PortaSplit, too, but if you’re looking for a more permanent option, consider Midea’s Breezeless E. As the name implies, the unit puts out a high volume of hot or cold air, but without unpleasant blasts or breezes thanks to an innovative design featuring 5,103 mini holes to soften the airflow.

The remarkably powerful unit can cool a room by 6.4°C, or heat a room by 10.4°C in under 10 minutes, according to the manufacturer. It’s a game-changer for people looking to find an efficient heating and cooling system, plus it has intelligent tools to help save customers money.

Midea’s latest smart algorithm ECO Master can proactively detect changes in your environment and make energy-saving adjustments every 30 seconds. For example, the Breezeless E can immediately detect when a friend walks into your room, and its algorithm will go to work calculating the most efficient way to reach the setting temperature, automatically adjusting its operation mode to achieve better cooling while minimizing temperature fluctuations and energy consumption. Testing shows this algorithm increases the unit’s energy savings rate by 30 percent based on the previous energy-efficiency performance.

The PortaSplit has a cooling capacity of 3.5kW, and a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating of 6.1. Test results from a third-party lab rated the PortaSplit three times more efficient than a conventional portable AC, and four times better in cooling capacity (tested according to Stiwa standard test conditions of 30°C outdoor temperature and 24°C indoor temperatures for portable ACs). Midea reports that PortaSplit’s intelligent AI algorithms can provide additional energy savings of up to 15 percent by adjusting the unit’s performance based on the room’s environment and its enhanced predictive models. For example, the unit can turn on when you arrive home and turn off when nobody is in the room. The added ability to track and control your home’s energy savings and usage can help reduce overall energy costs.
