Every year, we make ambitious tech resolutions to finally organize our photos, secure our passwords, or clean out that overwhelming inbox. But most of us stall out once we’ve opened our system settings.

The good news is that digital upkeep doesn’t need to be an all-day affair. A handful of small, 15-minute fixes can make your tech life meaningfully faster, safer, and more organized heading into 2026. From clearing out home screen clutter to switching your wireless carrier to T-Mobile (yes, it’s that fast), below are some quick wins to knock out before the ball drops.

  1. Audit your streaming subscriptions. Some day, all that streaming consolidation we keep hearing about may actually come to fruition. Until then, taking a look at where you’re subscribed once a year is just good sense. Don’t let a three-week binge turn into a monthly payment that repeats for eternity.
  2. Go on an unsubscribe spree. Inbox clutter is so, so real. So take 15 minutes to go through and actually unsubscribe from that brand you bought something from six years ago. Apps like Unroll.me and Clean Email make it easy, although truth be told, email providers themselves are making one-click unsubscribing quite simple these days.
  3. Switch to T-Mobile. Let’s be serious, the thing that holds most people back from switching mobile carriers is the hassle of it all. By design, switching has been a major headache. But not anymore — now, switching to T-Mobile takes just 15 minutes per line though the T-Life app or web. Couple that with same-day device delivery and enjoy all the benefits of your T-Mobile membership right away.
  4. Organize — or establish — your cloud storage. Maybe you’ve yet to set up a system to backup your photos and files, or maybe your cloud storage ecosystem has become an unnavigable mess. Either way, there’s much to be said for heading into the new year with an organized system to backup your data and access it from anywhere. Taking 15 minutes to create folders and move or upload docs can go a long way, ensuring that side project — and those vacation memories — are protected.
  5. Finally set up a password manager. Whether it’s 1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane, or another platform, importing your logins takes minutes and instantly upgrades your security game. You’ll never reuse a password or get locked out again.
  6. Enable two-factor authentication. Will you be slightly annoyed every time you have to pick up your phone or click over to email to retrieve a code? Certainly. Will you sleep a little better knowing your systems are that much better protected in 2026? Absolutely. At minimum, implement 2FA on the big ones — like email, banking, and social media. Since you’ve already followed to-do No. 5 and set up a password manager, you’re basically impenetrable. Look at you. Cyber royalty.
  7. Set up focus mode. The “focus” and “do not disturb” settings on phones these days can be wildly useful, but only if you take the time to configure them to your preferences. Set aside 15 minutes to choose how your devices block pings when you’re unwinding or engaging in deep work, and reap the rewards of peace and productivity all year long.
  8. Update your devices. Sure, in some cases, the actual update may take longer than 15 minutes — say, if you’re updating your laptop’s operating system. But the labor part is quick and easy, and most people put it off simply because they’re in the middle of something when that pop-up reminder appears. Here’s a tip: Click the upgrade button then set your device(s) aside the next time you’re settling in for a streaming binge.
  9. Run a quick privacy check. Privacy dashboards have become common throughout big tech, with Google, Apple, and Meta offering a clear view to their users. Take advantage by spending a few minutes reviewing which apps have access to your location, microphone, or data — and shut down anything that doesn’t need it.
  10. Clean up your phone’s home screen. Just how many pages of apps is too many pages of apps is largely a question of personal preference. Some like a small number of folders, others let the icons settle where they may. But there comes a point when enough is enough. So, engage in 15 minutes of digital spring — er, winter — cleaning and bring that unwieldy home screen back within reason.
