To understand that, it helps to look not at insects, but at human behavior.
Humans, meanwhile, have their own inherited behaviors. Not necessarily through genetics, but through what scientists call cultural transmission, the process by which knowledge, habits, and traditions are passed down over time. We inherit recipes, cleaning routines, household rituals, and, evidently, pest-control strategies. People tend to reach for familiar remedies when bugs appear, whether they work particularly well or not.
