The name of the new model will be “Mythos,” Fortune reported — and other internal information, like details of an invite-only CEO event, were available in an “unsecured data trove.”

Artificial intelligence is more a part of our lives than ever before. While some might call it hype and compare it to NFTs or 3D TVs, generative AI is causing a sea change in nearly every part of the technology industry. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is still the best-known AI chatbot around, but with Google pushing Gemini, Microsoft building Copilot, and Apple adding its Intelligence to Siri, AI is probably going to be in the spotlight for a very long time. At The Verge, we’re exploring what might be possible with AI — and a lot of the bad stuff AI does, too.

Judge Lin wrote that ‘punishing Anthropic … is classic illegal First Amendment retaliation.’

The compression algorithm works by shrinking the data stored by large language models, with Google’s research finding that it can reduce memory usage by at least six times “with zero accuracy loss.”

As part of a deal announced in January, Apple reportedly has ‘complete access’ to Gemini in its data centers, according to The Information. That includes the option to use Gemini to train “student” AI models via distillation that could be specially-tuned for Apple’s devices and require less computing power.

Intel is announcing its new Arc Pro B70 “Big Battlemage” desktop GPU with 32GB of VRAM and up to 32 Xe2 cores. It costs $949 for an Intel reference design, while partner designed cards will vary in price. There’s also a B65 Pro with 20 Xe2 cores, but it’s only made by partners.
Check out the full specs below. Gaming-focused versions of these cards sure would sound swell.
Alongside supply constraints and AI regulations, requirements for devices in the European Union to have removable batteries by 2027 are holding back plans to launch Ray-Ban Display smart glasses in the region. Meta is reportedly discussing possible workarounds with the EU.
Anthropic is seeking a preliminary injunction to block its designation as a military supply-chain risk, and it just faced off with the Trump administration before Judge Rita Lin, who’ll be making the call. A decision is anticipated in the next few days — for a sense of how the hearing went, you can check out Lawfare’s Molly Roberts Bluesky live-post.
The proliferation of automated podcast tools has reached a sadly inevitable outcome: WebinarTV is scraping open Zoom meeting links and turning call recordings into content for its platform without telling anyone. (Or paying for anything, of course.) Our friends at 404 Media have the whole story.

By joining the beta test and connecting a Beehiiv account to AI chatbots like ChatGPT or Claude, its paying customers can ask the chatbots for help with things like a grammar check on posts or insights on subscriber lists and specific performance details. Down the line, the Model Context Protocol (MCP) link will let people use AI chatbots to directly draft posts or send offers to particular groups of subscribers.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang thinks we’ve achieved AGI — artificial general intelligence — which would sound more impressive if anyone could agree what it actually means, or whether it’s even the right term. But hey, that just means Huang can define it how he likes, and claim success whenever it’s convenient.
boss.king:
Anything can be AGI if you’re vague enough in defining it.

Sam Altman announced that he’s stepping down from the board of nuclear fusion startup Helion Energy. Axios reports that OpenAI is in “in advanced talks” with Helion, even though significant scientific advancements still need to be made for nuclear fusion — long considered the Holy Grail of clean energy — to become a reality.
The new tool in Photoshop Beta lets you turn 2D images into 3D-rotatable objects. I tried it out on a handful of items but wasn’t too impressed with the results. It took normal objects and gave them a very AI-generated look. It’s fun but not super useful.
According to Axios, discussing a potential energy deal between OpenAI and Helion Energy for “a guaranteed portion of Helion’s production, potentially scaling to 50 gigawatts by 2035 (assuming the company can develop a fusion process that generates more energy than it consumes).
Axios also reports Altman has stepped down as Helion’s board chair and recused himself from discussions.

Superhuman CEO Shishir Mehrotra says the intention of Grammarly’s expert review feature was not to impersonate real-life journalists. But he wouldn’t defend it.
Last week, Michael Smith pleaded guilty to creating hundreds of thousands of AI-generated songs and then using bots to stream the songs “billions” of times. The scheme allowed Smith to earn over $8 million in royalties, according to the DOJ.
