Musk “cock-blocked” Bezos at Trump dinner.

The New York Times says president Musk “was not initially expected to be part of the dinner but joined as it was underway.” Images originally shared on a now deleted Instagram story from a person who is reportedly “at Mar-a-lago a lot,” described the scene as follows:

“At 8:30 PM Musk appears out of nowhere and sits himself down and Bezos looks completely caught off guard and uncomfortable like he had been cock-blocked... The tension between Musk and Bezos known rivals is palpable as they do their best to engage politely but clearly have no love for each other...”

Amazon goes into heavy detail about its new packaging.

When it launched a new lineup of Kindles this fall, Amazon also mentioned a new packaging design with more recycled fiber content, less ink, and tactile-marked QR codes for instructions instead of paper.

Amazon also points to removing more plastic from packaging and cutting weight overall to reduce emissions, which can still be a problem, especially near warehouses.

Taiwan considers Amazon’s Project Kuiper.

Taipei wants to make its communications networks less vulnerable to Chinese attack. Starlink isn’t an option because of Musk’s business ties to China and his company’s refusal to relinquish control in a joint venture. And Eutelsat’s OneWeb constellation of low Earth satellites isn’t up to snuff, according to technology minister Wu Cheng-wen:

“We found that their bandwidth is too small for real applications,” the minister said about OneWeb. “So far as I know, the company is in financial problems at this moment, so they have a [delay] in developing the second generation satellites.

Bezos’ Kuiper is still just a promise but is expected to begin offering service from its constellation of low Earth orbit satellites next year.

Zoox nabs Tesla’s head of Autopilot hardware.

Zheng Gao worked at Tesla for eight years, most recently as head of autopilot hardware design. He also spent nine years at Apple on its connector and input device product design team. At Zoox, he’ll lead the hardware engineering team, where he’ll be under pressure to meet the Amazon-owned company’s deadline to launch a commercial robotaxi service in 2025. Zoox’s co-founder has previously dinged Tesla for promoting self-driving technology that “doesn’t work.”

Amazon is almost ready to show off its Olympus AI model.

According to The Information, the retail giant might be unveiling its flagship LLM at its AWS re:Invent conference next week. The AI model can reportedly analyze images and videos and find specific scenes via text prompts, such as a winning basketball shot.

The AI should help Amazon reduce its dependency on Anthropic’s Claude, after pouring $8 billion into the startup.

Inside Amazon’s plan to compete with Nvidia’s AI chips.

Bloomberg explores Amazon’s $8 billion partnership with Anthropic that could advance Amazon’s Trainium hardware and software tools enough for the AWS provider to cut into Nvidia’s stranglehold on the $100-billion-plus market for AI chips:

Trainium2 is the company’s third generation of artificial intelligence chip. By industry reckoning, this is a make-or-break moment. Either the third attempt sells in sufficient volume to make the investment worthwhile, or it flops and the company finds a new path.
