Coolpad isn’t a name that many people in the US are familiar with, and that won’t change anytime soon: the company’s first US effort is a decidedly low-end phone called the Quattro 4G for Metro PCS. Powered by a 1GHz processor, the Quattro 4G features a 4-inch display and two cameras: a rear 3.2-megapixel unit and a VGA-resolution front-facing shooter. Fortunately, it does have access to Metro’s 4G LTE service instead of the carrier’s much slower CDMA network.

The biggest disappointment here might be that the Quattro 4G runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread instead of the newer Android 4.0 or even Android 4.1. Given its $149 no-contract-required price tag, we might be forgiving about that, but it’s still a tough pill to swallow. Budget shoppers can pair the Quattro 4G with Metro’s $55 per month unlimited plan, and they should be able to find the phone in stores or online today.
