As part of a new initiative called The Playerbase, people can apply to have their likeness incorporated into PlayStation titles. Initially, one person will be selected to appear in Gran Turismo 7, but Sony says it looks forward to “expanding The Playerbase as additional PlayStation Studios participate.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration closed its investigation into Tesla’s Actual Smart Summon, or ASS, which allows owners to remotely control their vehicles from a smartphone app. The agency’s Office of Defects Investigation was probing an estimated 2.6 million vehicles with the parking feature after dozens of reports of crashes. But the agency closed the investigation after concluding that the risk of crash severity was low because the speeds were very slow.

Before Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation returns for a third season in 2027, the streamer will also debut a new One Piece Lego animated special this September, which will make a good companion for WIT Studio’s upcoming The One Piece anime remake series.

Kalshi will have paid product placement on the biggest news channel in the US, according to The Hollywood Reporter (though Fox reportedly won’t use Kalshi for elections coverage). The network is the latest news organization to jump on the prediction market bandwagon: The Associated Press and CNN have deals, not to mention Kalshi and Polymarket’s vast influencer and advertising operations.

The robotaxi company said today that it will start accepting its first public riders in Music City. Customers, who will be invited to ride on a rolling basis, can initially hail a ride through the Waymo app, and then later matched with a vehicle through the Lyft app. Lyft will also handle fleet services, such as cleaning, maintenance, and EV charging. Waymo first started testing its vehicles in Nashville in early 2025. For those keeping score, the company now operates commercially in 11 cities.

The Verge’s Allison Johnson called the original 2 x 3-inch version of the Polaroid Hi-Print the best instant photo printer in 2022. It’s still available for $99.99, but Polaroid has announced a new $119.99 version that churns out larger 3 x 3-inch square photos and doubles as a self-standing frame for your favorite print.

Aqara announced its Thermostat Hub W200 at CES 2026 with support for Apple’s Adaptive Temperature and Clean Energy Guidance features in iOS 26 and Matter controller functionality. The W200 is now available through Aqara’s online store, Amazon, and other retailers for $159.99, while an optional C-wire power adapter is $29.99.
