The Pixel Watch can take standard straps if you want it bad enough.

Google’s Pixel Watch uses a proprietary strap mounting system that prevents standard straps from attaching to it. But if you happen to buy one of Google’s $79.99 Crafted Leather Bands, you can wedge a strap pin tool between its lugs and pop the strap off Google’s special mount. Then you can fit whatever 20mm strap you want in its place.

Here’s a brown leather strap that I bought for a Samsung watch a couple years ago fitting just fine. I don’t understand why Google isn’t selling a brown strap for the Pixel Watch, so I took matters into my own hands.

We broke the Pixel Watch in less than a week.

The Pixel Watch has an extremely domed glass surface that’s not supported by any border or framing. It’s begging to be cracked, and despite its Gorilla Glass surface, one of our review units cracked in less than a week. I would not be surprised if this is a common occurrence for Pixel Watch owners once they get into more hands. Check out Victoria Song’s review for more.

“[The Pixel 7 is] a little more grown-up-looking, like the Pixel 6 got a mortgage and a fuel-efficient family car.”

That’s my favorite line from Allison Johnson’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro review, which I encourage you to read all of. Google’s made positive steps forward this year, even if the phones are too big and don’t quite live up to being the effortless helpers the marketing pitches them as.

Now you know what’s inside Google’s Pixel 7 Pro.

We got our hands on the outside parts of Google’s new phones, but now PBK Reviews has gone a little deeper (via 9to5Google) and found... phone parts, mostly. You can see the Tensor G2 chip in all its glory, at least.

Five years of Pixel security updates.

During its presentation today, Google said that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro would get “five years of security updates.” This is your reminder that, like with the Pixel 6, that doesn’t mean that you’ll get Android 18 — Google only commits to three years of OS updates.

The company confirmed the Pixel 7 policy to HowToGeek, which points out that Samsung commits to four new versions of Android.

We also got our hands on Google’s new flagship phones, and Allison Johnson can tell you how — just like this year’s “boring” iPhone 14 — not much has changed, on the outside at least.

“It’s a lot cooler in person than it looked in photos.”
