The Meta Oversight Board — a semi-independent body that interprets Meta’s rules and suggests changes — has responded to the recent dissolution of the company’s third-party fact-checking system. Its statement contains a series of gently worded reminders to Meta that it exists and would very much like to continue existing in the future, pretty please.

Instagram might show you AI-generated images of yourself.

A Reddit user noticed that after using Meta’s AI tools to edit a selfie, Instagram made posts featuring AI-generated versions of themselves, as reported by 404 Media. Meta says it’s a test of a feature that puts AI-generated content for your Facebook and Instagram feeds.

After user outrage, Meta is deleting its small army of AI bot profiles in order to fix a bug that removed the ability to block the accounts. As I reported earlier today, the bots have been around since 2023, but many users just discovered them in the last few days following news coverage and social media posts.
