Google is seeing “lower monetization” in AI Mode ads.

However, the company has seen “promising results” with its ad experiments, chief business officer Philipp Schindler said on yesterday’s earnings call.

It’s also turning on AI Mode ads for more people and in more scenarios: ahead of that call, Google announced that it’s bringing ads in AI Mode to new countries and launching ads in follow-up queries in AI Mode in the US.

GTA VI is Edge magazine’s cover story.

It’s packed with details and worth reading in full. There’s a lot of fascinating stuff about the game’s systems and seemingly incredible level of detail, but I was most intrigued by a tidbit about how quitting crime is a “a fundamental theme” of the game’s story:

“These games, maybe some people think, ‘Oh, they’re power fantasies’,” Nelson says. “Sure. But what if these characters want something else?”

The KB5127936 update includes a cloud rebuild feature that restores the OS and your device drivers from Windows Update when your PC is unable to boot. It requires an internet connection, but spares you from needing to keep a recovery USB drive handy, and doesn’t relying on the integrity of the current installation.

Samsung’s expecting the RAM shortage to last until at least 2028.

Memory executive Jaejune Kim said in the company’s latest quarterly earnings call that “tight supply conditions” will continue in 2028, driven by demand from AI. As it predicted, Samsung reported record quarterly revenue of 195.3 trillion Korean Won ($146.3 billion), and said its 2027 supply of HBM RAM is already sold out.

LA is just replacing Flock with a different company’s license plate readers.

In July, the LAPD suspended its use of Flock’s cameras over concerns about how the company was handling its data. Now it’s rolling out hundreds of ALPRs from competitor Axon. The company has so far escaped the backlash Flock faced, but it’ll likely face growing scrutiny as it fills the gaps left by canceled Flock contracts.

Mistral AI has officially released its Large 4 (Le Chonk) model.

After making Large 4 available in a public preview earlier this month, Mistral is now releasing an improved version to everyone, which it says ranks as the “best open-weight model for coding.” The model offers advancements in cybersecurity-related tasks, like creating patches or reproducing vulnerabilities, and is more likely to refuse “malicious cyber requests” compared to other open models, according to Mistral.

“That’s what’s coming in November.”

A new GTA VI clip in the latest episode of South Park shows Jason grabbing a bag of dog poop off one of Leonida’s beaches and whacking an NPC in the face with it. You can try it yourself when GTA VI comes out on November 19th.

Bluesky is restricting links to the massive DHS leak.

On Wednesday, the nonprofit DDoSecrets published a database of more than 41,000 employee records stolen from the DHS. Bluesky, which has strict policies against sharing someone’s personal information, tells Wired that it’s blocking links to the archive because they contain people’s email addresses and phone numbers “shared without their authorization.”

Jensen Huang and the AI spies.

The New York Times reports that US intelligence officials believe an executive at one of Nvidia’s data center customers, Megaspeed, may be a “Chinese intelligence asset,” and has a “close relationship” with Nvidia CEO Huang. Details are sparse in the article, especially on how close that relationship was — Nvidia says she’s just one of “thousands of customer executives” Huang meets every year.

JerryRig the Trump phone.

JerryRigEverything belatedly got hold of a Trump phone for a midterm special durability test, including a blunt recounting of the president’s track record so far. It features more evidence that the T1 Phone is an HTC in disguise, including a repeat of iFixit’s clever trick of swapping motherboards to prove the phones are identical inside and out.
