The president of the Signal Foundation refused to say whether she thinks AI doomerism is “hype or real” and passed on a bunch of other questions we never get to hear. But she did concede that AI has a “bro culture” problem and that she’d probably choose a bear in the woods over an AI with all her passwords. (Though both are bad.)
I’m pretty militant about keeping my unread count under control, but it’s hard to stay on top of things. As I’m writing this, I have 144 unread emails. That pales in comparison to my friend Abel’s 11,425, and my wife’s staggering 23,166. Where do you fall on the spectrum? Are you all in on inbox zero? Or have you just given up?
A last-minute report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that Apple’s smart home hub will be called HomeView, not HomePad and will ship in mid november. He says it won’t be an iPad-like experience with an App Store, and will offer a much more limited experience.

This slightly longer look at the new Amazon series doesn’t offer much more info than the original teaser that dropped in July. It is certainly a moodier and darker trailer, though. The show has been in the works since at least 2022, but it’ll finally hit streaming on November 25th of this year.
Kevin O’Leary — AKA Mr. Wonderful — found himself in the crosshairs of SNL over his plans to build a massive data center in Utah called Stratos. Weekend Update has been on a tear so far this season, including this send-up of Anthropic’s Dario Amodei. Of course, these Silicon Valley supervillains make SNL’s job pretty easy.

According to Variety, during a panel at New York Comic Con this weekend, Cage said:
“Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI … I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it’s like, connect those dots! I’m not a member of their club. I didn’t sign the waiver to let him use AI on ‘Spider Noir.’ I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that’s okay.”
Good times. Hit play and bask in the glory that is Tom Hanks giving absolutely zero fucks.
