The Last of Us will return for season 3 in 2027.

During an interview with Variety, HBO Max head Casey Bloys said the next season “is definitely planned for 2027,” though there might not be another one after that:

Craig [Mazin] is still working it out whether it will be two more seasons or one more long season. It hasn’t been decided yet, and I’m following Craig’s lead on that.

The next season will be the first without the involvement of The Last of Us co-creator Neil Druckman, who is shifting focus to upcoming Naughty Dog games.

NBCUniversal agrees to pay $3.6 million over Peacock cancellation lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed by Los Angeles County, accused Peacock of making it difficult for users to unsubscribe from the service, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. The county argued that Peacock violated California’s newly amended click-to-cancel-style subscription law.

As part of the settlement, Peacock will also have it make it easier for users to cancel their subscriptions.

Disclosure: Comcast, which owns NBCUniversal, is also an investor in Vox Media, The Verge’s parent company.

Disney finally brought Walt back to life without cryogenics.

The new “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” attraction debuting at Disneyland on Thursday, July 17th, marks the first time that the parks have portrayed the man himself as an audio-animatronic figure. The movements are fairly impressive, but the facial likeness requires a little imagination.

Netflix is losing its edge.

Nielsen data compiled by the Entertainment Strategy Guy newsletter shows that Netflix’s original titles have gradually been losing ground to original content from rival streaming platforms, such as Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV Plus, and Paramount Plus.

While Netflix owned 80 percent of the weekly top ten charts in 2021, that’s now down to 52 percent this year so far — and Disney Plus isn’t doing so hot either.
