Samsung’s eyeing noninvasive blood glucose monitoring.

In a recent Bloomberg interview, Samsung executive Hon Pak says it’s actively pursuing noninvasive blood glucose monitoring and continuous blood pressure checks. Pak declined to give any concrete timeline but said he hopes to bring it to market in five years.

This is all part of a larger push toward health, as evidenced by the forthcoming Galaxy Ring. (Which Bloomberg says is unlikely to work with iOS.) Just take stories like this with a grain of salt. There’s a good reason why this tech is taking so long, and probably won’t end up in wearables the way we expect.

“This clear bid to interfere in the New Hampshire primary demands a thorough investigation and a forceful response.”

Congressman Joseph Morelle (D-NY) wants the Department of Justice to investigate an allegedly AI-generated Joe Biden robocall that provided false information to voters — the latest sign that AI-generated disinformation will be an ongoing election concern. The state’s own Department of Justice is already investigating.

IBM will help Spanish football team Sevilla find new players with AI.

IBM built Scout Adviser, a platform that will analyze Sevilla FC’s database of potential recruits. Using natural language processing and foundation models, it will create a list of players it thinks Sevilla should tap based on the team’s needs. IBM said it will look at several factors when evaluating recruits:

This includes both quantitative data such as height and weight, speed, number of goals or minutes played, and qualitative unstructured data such as the textual analysis contained in their more than 200,000 scouting reports.

But Sevilla won’t be relying on AI alone. The football club will continue to rely on scouts and analysts as well.

PSA: Update your Apple devices now to avoid known exploit.

In case Apple’s new security features weren’t reason enough to update to iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3, Apple has also confirmed that it addresses a WebKit vulnerability that “may have been exploited” in the wild, alongside other security updates. Its macOS 14.3 and tvOS 17.3 updates include a similar fix, and there are also fixes for devices stuck on older versions of macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. Get updating!

A more seamless way to voice type could be on the way for Android.

9to5Google has spotted references to a new “Seamless voice typing” feature in the code of a beta version of Gboard. When enabled, “voice typing will start automatically when keyboard is shown,” apparently.

It’s currently a two-tap process to start voice typing on Android (once to open the keyboard, once to turn the mic on), but this might speed up the process for frequent voice typists.
