Baaaaaby shark, do doo do do do do.

This drone footage from wildlife filmmaker Carlos Gauna might be the first ever captured of a living newborn great white shark.

An associated research paper suggests the white stuff sloughing off of it is either a uterine milk coating or a skin disorder like dermatitis. The researchers believe the shark may be “days or even hours old.”

And now I have a century-old song to scrub from my brain.

The Noctua RTX 4080 Super is chonky and tanned.

Nvidia has launched its RTX 4080 Super GPUs today, and Asus is ready with an update to last year’s RTX 4080 Noctua Edition. The Super model includes a four slot cooler with 120mm Noctua fans on top. Asus hasn’t confirmed pricing just yet, but given the $450 premium on the previous RTX 4080 model it’s probably going to be a lot more than the $999 starting price of the RTX 4080 Super.

As I’m watching this hearing, it’s surprising to see which companies aren’t testifying.

I find it particularly glaring that the committee didn’t subpoena the CEOs of Roblox and YouTube for a hearing about kids safety online, given that both of those services are wildly popular with young people and have dealt with their fair share of moderation failures.

If I had to guess, Roblox probably has more pre-teen users than X and Discord combined, and YouTube even has a separate app for kids. Why aren’t either of those companies here?

ChatGPT continues to be a bad lawyer.

New York lawyer Jae Lee will face an attorney grievance panel after trusting known liar ChatGPT for case research.

The court’s order says Lee filed a “defective brief” citing a made-up case. Lee isn’t alone — others have fallen for the allure of chatbots, including former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen and counsel representing a member of The Fugees.

Zuckerberg says there is still “no plan” to release a kids version of Instagram.

This was in response to Senator Amy Klobuchar reading a series of internal Meta employee discussions about building products for “tweens” and kids over the years.

To my knowledge, Meta has never said anything publicly on this since shelving the project in 2021, so it’s noteworthy that Zuckerberg is now saying there is still no plan to release it. That’s not because folks inside Meta don’t want to have an Instagram for kids, as I’ve been told by sources, but because the company has (rightfully) come to the conclusion that doing so isn’t worth the backlash.

The average TikTok user is over 30 years old.

What started as a kid’s dancing app has changed significantly in recent years. At a Senate hearing on child safety happening now, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew said the average user on the platform is well into adulthood.

Chew is among the group of tech executives testifying today. Read his full opening statement below.

Twitter alternative Post just got some major upgrades.

Post launched in 2022 as a way to read ad-free news articles and paywalled content with a points-based system. But now, it’s rolling out a number of improvements, including native comments you can leave on feeds, repost, and tag people in.

There’s also an update to make navigating between posts and comment threads smoother, along with a new real-time notification system that will keep you “up to date with accurate comment counts, activity stream updates, and much more.” Post is also working on building achievements, status badges, and rewards for users.

Pennsylvania man arrested for murder after posting a beheading video on YouTube.

NBC News reports the arrest of Justin Mohn, who allegedly murdered his father, a federal employee, and displayed the head in a 14-minute video posted to YouTube. Mohn claimed he was in command of America’s militias against Joe Biden and “woke mobs,” and he called for attacks on federal law enforcement officials.

Police said they were called to the victim’s home after the body was found Tuesday night and arrested Mohn hours later. The YouTube video was taken down after the arrest.
