More big YouTubers are stepping back.

Matthew “MatPat” Patrick will be retiring on March 9th, he announced yesterday. While he jokes that the move was inspired by Tom Scott, who recently ended his 10-year run of posting a new video every week, Patrick says that he and his wife have been working towards the change for years.

For more on MatPat, check out our interview with him from 2021.

Congress is trying to ban unauthorized AI deepfakes again.

Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL) and Madeline Dean (D-PA) filed the No AI FRAUD Act building on themes in an earlier bill introduced in October. If passed, the bill will protect individual likenesses and voices at a unified federal level instead of a patchwork state-level one, giving people the right to control who can use their image and fight against AI-generated impersonation.

Here are all the Wi-Fi 7 routers announced at CES this year.

There weren’t many, but most big names announced theirs last year.

New to buy are Ubiquiti’s UniFi U7 Pro PoE+ access point and several of TP-Link’s new (and some not so new) routers. Coming later are MSI’s Roamii mesh and Acer’s new 5G and mesh gaming routers. And that’s about it for CES 2024 routers. Read our Wi-Fi 7 guide before you buy one.

NASCAR is ready for its Drive to Survive moment.

While Netflix is starting to do live sports, this isn’t that (at least not yet, anyway). While the Drive to Survive series that boosted F1’s popularity in the US won’t be back until February, NASCAR and Netflix have released a trailer for Full Speed, a very similar behind-the-scenes docuseries following stock car drivers.

It promises access to 16 drivers and teams through last year’s playoffs across five 45-minute episodes, including Ryan Blaney, known gamer Ross Chastain, known gamer moment haver Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, and others.

Is it a bird, is it a plane, or is it a $2,500 faucet?

“Disrupt the bathroom faucet” was not on my CES bingo card, but on giant orange plinths in the middle of Kohler’s booth was the most bizarre-looking bathroom tap I’ve ever seen.

Kohler’s new angular, very orange, limited-edition Formation 01 faucet is a “revolutionary” new bathroom fixture, according to Wallpaper Magazine.

That’s a stretch; it’s just a tap — it doesn’t do anything fancy, it’s not even smart. But full points for trying something new, Kohler!

Hundreds of Amazon Prime Video and MGM Studios workers are being laid off.

It’s not clear exactly how many Amazon Prime Video and MGM Studios workers are being fired just ten days into the new year, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the layoffs are coming, and the number in the hundreds.

In a statement about the firings, division head Mike Hopkins described the move as being meant to increase “our investment and focus on content and product initiatives that deliver the most impact.”

Another day done at CES.

The show floor only just opened yesterday, but we got a glimpse at a ton of cool new products, prototypes, and features:

• Asus made a portable monitor — and a laptop — with two screens.

• Sony and Honda showed off an Afeela EV prototype that puts Fortnite on your bumper.

• Amazon announced Matter casting support for Prime Video.

Google and Samsung teamed up to combine Quick Share and Nearby Share into a single sharing solution.

• This AI startup made a little gadget that’s supposed to use your apps for you.

There’s still more to come! Stay tuned to our coverage, and make sure to check out The Verge’s TikTok and Instagram where we go hands-on with new devices.
