Remembering Thud.

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones claimed during a live X session that Elon Musk will be “very involved” in helping thwart The Onion’s purchase of Infowars, according to Mother Jones.

Whether or not that’s true, it’s an excuse to remember that Musk once wanted to buy The Onion, didn’t, then funded Thud, a satirical media company, with Onion alums. (He backed out, reportedly because he worried about being targeted by the satire.)

And though there has been some backlash to posts like Javed’s in the form of angry comments or Reddit threads documenting influencers who are also Trump supporters, the outcry has been relatively minimal.

Skydio — the US-based competitor to DJI — just raised a lot more money.

The startup, which now only sells its self-flying drones to entities like law enforcement, utility services, and construction companies, raised $170 million in an extension round of funding, according to TechCrunch.

A pitch deck viewed by TechCrunch says government scrutiny over China-based drone companies, like DJI, could help give Skydio “tailwinds” when it comes to sales in the US.
