The Peregrine lunar lander likely didn’t make it to the Moon because of a valve failure.

After an extensive review of the events before, during, and after Peregrine’s mission, the board concluded that the most likely cause of Peregrine’s anomaly was the failure of a singular helium pressure control valve, called PCV2, within the propulsion system.

Viral true crime story or just another AI fake?

A reader asked the Denver Post why it hadn’t covered a grisly and salacious 2014 murder in Littleton, CO. It hadn’t, because the crime never happened.

But there it is on YouTube and Spotify, accumulating millions of views with seemingly AI-generated voiceovers and faces. True crime fans say they reported the videos months ago after YouTube recommended them, but they aren’t being removed.

Google Play now lets you download up to three app updates simultaneously.

If you try to download more than three updates at a time, you’ll see a “Pending” status, 9to5Google reports.

Google started allowing multiple full app downloads earlier this year; at the time, you were limited to just two downloads, but 9to5Google says that’s been bumped up to three.

Etsy is launching an SEO tool.

The platform’s Search Visibility Page tells sellers what they should update in their product listings to improve their position in the on-platform search — an important way for sellers to get in front of buyers. That might mean adding a return policy, swapping out a product image, or changing shipping cost.

Former Microsoft AI expert Mikhail Parakhin joins Shopify as its new CTO.

The Windows and Surface team split last year when Panos Panay left, with Parakhin’s team building AI-powered web services like Bing Chat / Copilot. Then, this spring, in a shake up as Mustafa Suleyman became CEO of Microsoft AI, Parakhin was out.

He’s since joined the board of an AI startup and with Shopify:

Mikhail will oversee our engineering and data organizations and push Shopify to the cutting edge, not just in ML and AI, but in everything we’re building to make commerce better for everyone.
