Croatian automaker Rimac announced it delivered the first Nevera hypercar to a customer in the US. The quad-motor, 1,914 horsepower Nevera has a top speed of 258 mph, making it the fastest production EV in the world. Rimac wouldn’t name the customer, but given the $2.2 million price tag, I think you can eliminate about 99.9 percent of the US population as a suspect.

The Biden administration is requesting funding for a program called ARPA-I, a ‘skunkworks’-style R&D project for infrastructure. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg says the goal is to design things ‘we can’t even imagine today.’

Well that’s a terrible headline! An autonomous Waymo vehicle struck and killed a small dog in San Francisco last month, according to an incident report spotted by TechCrunch. Waymo says the accident was unavoidable, and of course over a million pets are mowed down by human drivers every year. Still, this incident will be an interesting test of my theory about AVs, which is that while we have an extremely high tolerance for death caused by human drivers, we have an extremely low tolerance for robot-caused deaths. My guess is that extends to furry friends too.
