    Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) was known for driving his 1974 Volkswagen Type 181 around Washington, DC.

    The boxy convertible, aka The Thing, was full of holes and dead leaves, but became something of an automotive celebrity on Capitol Hill. Today, the Thing makes its final DC appearance, as the retired Burr is on hand to witness his successor’s swearing in.
