Dust from car tires is killing the salmon.

Tailpipe emissions aren’t the only pollutant to arise from driving. As Forbes explains, a chemical additive found in most rubber tires is creating a dangerous type of microplastic pollution that’s laying waste to the endangered coho salmon of the Pacific Northwest.

“This is the DDT of our generation,” David Troutt, head of natural resources for the Nisqually Tribe in Washington, told Forbes. “This thing is killing salmon every time it rains in the Puget Sound region. We can’t take it anymore.”
