The Super Nintendo is somehow getting faster with age.

We’ve come to expect reduced performance from aging hardware, but some gamers have discovered the opposite with the Super Nintendo, as spotted by Time Extension.

The SNES’ main CPU, featuring a quartz crystal, is okay. But the console’s audio processing unit, which uses a ceramic resonator, is now running faster and speeds up as the hardware warms. The issue will potentially produce higher pitched sounds, but it’s not yet known if it will affect gameplay.

You can now wake up to the classic Super Mario Bros. theme.

As part of the company’s various promotions and announcements tied to “MAR10 Day,” Nintendo is releasing a free Super Mario Bros. theme for its Alarmo clock today featuring scenes and sounds from the NES classic.

You’ll need Alarmo connected to the internet and linked to your Nintendo account to download the theme, while Nintendo’s Japanese site has shared a preview of a couple of tracks included from the game.

This is my favorite upgrade on the new M4 MacBook Air.

The mute key’s label now features a speaker with a strike through it so it more closely resembles the icon that appears in macOS when pressed, as spotted by iCulture. Apple made the change on the new iPad Air’s Magic Keyboard, too.
