Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, FromSoftware’s latest mech action game, is just one month away and finally debuting a gameplay trailer tomorrow. It’s been all theatrical teasers and hands-off preview footage so far, so set your reminders to “feed the fire” on July 25th at 10AM ET / 7AM PT.
Maybe we’ll see if this longstanding franchise really has inherited new trappings from its Souls and Elden cousins.
Bandai Namco is killing off its team-based Mobile Suit Gundam first-person shooter, Gundam Evolution. The free-to-play mecha hero shooter — which played like Overwatch with Gundams, Zakus, and other popular Mobile Suits — will end on November 29th (14 months after launch). Seasons six and seven will still launch even after Bandai Namco ceases microtransactions on July 26th.
Even as a long-time Gundam fan, I quickly fell off Gundam Evolution. It wasn’t bad, but even those sick mechas couldn’t make it special enough.

Flippfly, the studio best-known for Race The Sun, has a demo for what’s now my most anticipated game of August (aside from Armored Core VI). It’s called Whisker Squadron: Survivor, a roguelite blending on-rails Star Fox spacecraft fighting with 30-minute runs like Vampire Survivors. It’s got slick neon colors, humanoid cat pilots, and a great feel on the Steam Deck.
It’s releasing August 21st on Steam, followed by a Whisker Squadron adventure game in 2024.
