    The end of an Anthem.

BioWare’s much-maligned live service shooter is shutting its servers on January 12th, 2026. It’ll be playable until then, though you can no longer purchase in-game premium currency, and it’ll disappear from EA Play on August 15th. EA says there have been no layoffs as a result, though jobs were lost at BioWare in January.

The publisher gave up on fixing Anthem with new content in 2021, and the writing’s been on the wall ever since.

    xAI gets permission to pollute.

Elon Musk’s AI company has been granted a permit for 15 natural gas turbines to power a Memphis data center, along with limits on their emissions, which include smog-forming nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide.

The company has been accused of running the generators without permits for almost a year, and the Southern Environmental Law Center claims there are many more than that — raising the question of whether xAI will really stop at 15 now.

    Samsung struggles in Texas.

The company’s second US chip plant — initially planned for a 2024 start — has been delayed to 2026, which Nikkei Asia reports is down to a lack of local customers. The company was just awarded $4.7 billion in US funding from the CHIPS Act.

TSMC suffered its own problems opening a plant in Arizona, but lack of customers wasn’t one of them — it has deals with Nvidia, AMD, Amazon, and Google, including Nvidia’s Blackwell AI GPUs.

    The Roku code.

Turns out Roku streaming sticks have a host of secret menus accessed through cheat code-esque combinations of button presses on the remote.

Sure, they’re mostly to do things like check app versions and monitor CPU temperatures, rather than enable infinite lives, but digging into the technical details of your streaming setup can be fun too.

    Made in Europe.

Swiss minimalist phone manufacturer Punkt says it’s working with German company Gigaset on a line of “fully European-built mobile devices,” with the first to launch in Q4 this year.

Punkt makes both smartphones and feature phones, and we don’t know which it’ll be making in Europe, nor how much of the supply chain will be European. But it’s one up on the Trump T1 Phone, which no longer claims to be made in the USA.

The $299 MP02 remains Punkt’s most distinctive device.

Google gets $314M class action bill over Android data use.

The company will appeal the payout, which will otherwise go to Android users in California whose cellular data was used to transmit information back to Google for uses like targeted advertising.

There’s a similar case going to trial in April 2026 on behalf of users in the other 49 states, not to mention a separate class action alleging Google collected some data even from users that had opted out.
